This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Great condition
From the Publisher's Preface This is a practical book; the author in painstaking detail sets forth the techniques of textile weaving without machinery in such explicit detail that anyone can weave a basket. In 1903, when this book was first published the art and handicraft of artifact weaving with grass and reed materials was a hobby enjoyed by thousands from coast to coast. But before the white man took it up as a hobby, the American Indians and their forebears wove these textile utensils as a matter of necessity. Long before the Anasazi (the Ancient Ones) developed clay vessels for water and cooking, these resourceful Americans were ingeniously fabricating containers of grass and reeds of such excellence as to hold water and even provide certain cookware. The book has nearly 600 b&w illustrations.
I would have bought this book for the historical value alone but to have diagrams and methods was a outstanding. I would have given this book five stars but the scanning was a bit annoying. Not enough to not buy it but just annoying.
It is a shame the editors did not take the time to proof and format this edition. It is full of terrific information, photos and illustrations; unfortunately they not in synch with the text.
Purchased this for some guidance on basketry; it was very helpful. I wish it had more pictures.
